Glossary
Terminology
E
DNS
DNS (Domain Name Service) is needed to translate Internet addresses. The name of a
computer on the Internet (for example, www.auerswald.de) is assigned to the corresponding
IP address. This service is provided by DNS servers at the various Internet service providers
or by upper domain servers.
DynDNS
DynDNS services make it possible to access an Internet connection despite a dynamic IP
address. To do this, the service provider assigns the changing IP address of an Internet
connection to a permanent domain name (e.g., YourName.DynDNS.org).
E
Echo Cancellation
Local echos and Hall effects are compensated using echo cancellation. For example, an echo
is generated on the receiver of a telephone; the voice of the caller emanates from the loud
speakers and reaches the microphone where it is then transmitted back.
End Device
A general description for a device that can be operated on a communication network or on a
PBX, e.g. telephone, fax machine, answering machine, ISDN PC controller, etc.
Ethernet
A network system with a speed of 10/100/1000 Mbit/s that was developed by the companies
INTEL, DEC and Xerox.
External
In the field of telecommunications, this is a connection type or subscriber that is reachable over
the public telecommunications network or enable a connection to this network.
