54.3.1.20 Temperature Sensor Configuration register (CTL_TD)
The Temperature Sensor register (CTL_TD) contains two enables that must both be set in
order for the Temperature Sensor to be operable. It also includes two 4-bit signed trim
adjustment register fields that are used to modify both Temperature Sensor trim values (one
bus for over-temperature and one bus for under-temperature). Finally, this register includes
Interrupt Enables (IE) for each of the Temperature Sensor EPR bits.
TRIM_ADJ_OVER and TRIM_ADJ_UNDER are used to introduce additional hysteresis into
the Temp Sensor events.
For instance, the TRIM_ADJ_OVER bits could be written to 11111 (-7) and the Temperature
Sensor event set as an interrupt. When this interrupt triggers, the TRIM_ADJ_OVER bits
could be updated to 0111 (+7), the interrupt cleared, and the Temperature Sensor event set
as a reset.
In this way, a warning interrupt could be established before a shutdown event (at a higher
temperature).
Care must be taken to include a timeout during the clearing of the interrupt described in the
example above. The Temperature Sensor has hysteresis and a timeout may be necessary
to indicate if the interrupt flag has not cleared in a reasonable amount of time. If this is the
case, then an error should be generated.
