Link Aggregation Configuration
Introduction
This chapter contains a complete sample Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP)
configuration. To see details on the LACP commands used in this example, or to see the
outputs of the validation commands, refer to
LACP is based on the IEEE Standard 802.3ad. It allows bundling of several physical ports to
form a single logical channel providing enhanced performance and redundancy. The aggregated
channel is viewed as a single link to each switch. The spanning tree views the channel as one
interface and not as multiple interfaces. When there is a failure in one physical port, the other
ports stay up and there is no disruption.
This device supports the aggregation of a maximum of eight physical ports into a single channel
group.

Configuring LACP

The following example shows how to configure three links between two Allied Telesis
managed Layer 3 Switches. The three links are assigned the same administrative key (1), so that
they aggregate to form a single channel 1. They are viewed by the STP as one interface.
