Routing Commands

show ip route database

This command displays the routing entries in the RIB. When multiple entries are available for
the same prefix, RIB uses the routes' administrative distances to choose the best route. All best
routes are entered into the FIB. To view the routes in the FIB, use the
To modify the lines displayed, use the | (output modifier token); to save the output to a file,
use the > output redirection token.

The routes added to the FIB are marked with a *. When multiple routes are available for the
same prefix, the best route is indicated with the > symbol. All unselected routes have neither
the * nor the > symbol.

These route entries denote:

Displays only the routes learned from BGP.
Displays only the routes learned from connected interfaces.
Displays only the routes learned from OSPF.
Displays only the routes learned from RIP.
Displays only the static routes you have configured.

The same prefix was learned from OSPF and from static route configuration.
Since this static route has a lower administrative distance than the OSPF route (110), the
static route (1) is selected and installed in the FIB.
