BGP Commands
bgp dampening
This command sets bgp dampening parameters.
Route dampening minimizes the instability caused by route flapping. A penalty is added for
every flap in a flapping route. As soon as the total penalty reaches the suppress limit the
advertisement of the route is suppressed. This penalty is decayed according to the configured
half time value. Once the penalty is lower than the reuse limit, the route advertisement is
un-suppressed.
The dampening information is purged from the router once the penalty becomes less than half
of the reuse limit.
The no form unsets the bgp dampening parameters.

Description
<1-45>
Specifies the reachability half-life time in minutes. The time for the
penalty to decrease to one-half of its current value. The default is 15
minutes.
<1-20000> Specifies the reuse limit value. When the penalty for a
suppressed route decays below the reuse value, the routes become
unsuppressed. The default reuse limit is 750
<1-20000>
Specifies the suppress limit value. When the penalty for a route exceeds
the suppress value, the route is suppressed. The default suppress limit is
2000.
<1-255>
Specifies the max-suppress-time. Maximum time that a dampened route
is suppressed. The default max-suppress value is 4 times the half-life time
(60 minutes).
<1-45>
Specifies the un-reachability half-life time for penalty, in minutes.
route-map
Route-map to specify criteria for dampening.
Specify the name of the route-map.
