pppoe-client persistent max-attempts

Use the pppoe-client persistent max-attempts command to limit the number of
consecutive connection establishment retires. When the number is reached, the PPPoE client
stops trying to establish connections. To restart the connection attempts, use the shutdown
and no shutdown command sequence.
