Avaya G250 and G350 Media Gateways support the backup and restore operations in Release 4.0 of the Avaya Communication Manager. The backup and restore operations are supported using the USB flash drive. When an Avaya G250 or G350 Media Gateway is replaced, the Media Gateway can be restored.

Figure 2 summarizes the Media Gateway Backup/Restore Directory Structure, which is created when a backup is performed. When the Avaya Media Gateway is configured as a TFTP server for the Avaya 4600 IP telephones, the related TFTP files must be placed under the sub-directory IPPHONE.

Please refrain from any other operation during this time. For more information, use 'show backup status' command. Use the command show backup status to check the backup status. The Avaya G350 will copy the files into the appropriate directories shown in Figure 2. The following screen shows that startup_config.cfg and vpn_license-file.cfg are copied to the backup-G350 directory.

Since all the data media modules on the Avaya G250 and G350 Media Gateways are part of the Avaya Media Gateway firmware, there is no separate firmware available for the data media module.

The firmware for the Voice MMs can be downloaded from http://www.support.avaya.com from the Avaya Communication Manager CD. The administrator can put all MM files in the MM directory and the Avaya G350 Media Gateway will restore only the MM files for the installed modules. A complete restore directory structure can be built up based on the backup directory structure. When an Avaya G250 or G350 Media Gateway is replaced because of RMA or the flash memory is reset, the Avaya Media Gateway can be restored from the USB flash drive.
