Chapter 1: User Levels and Contexts

The G250/G350 Command Line Interface (CLI) consists of commands that are divided into
logical contexts. These contexts enable you to view and configure the Avaya G250/G350 Media
Gateway more efficiently. A context can be a particular interface of the media gateway, or it can
be a specific function with all its related commands.
The contexts you can enter and the commands you can access, depend on the user level from
which you log in to the CLI.
For example, you can use all show commands in User mode. To configure the Avaya G250/
G350 Media Gateway, you must be in Supervisor or Privileged mode.
After logging in, type tree to see a list of all the commands that are accessible at your user
level. Type help to see the list of commands available in the current context.

User Levels

The following are the user levels that control access to the various parts of the CLI:
Level
User
Privileged
Supervisor
Access
Description
read-only
User level is a general access level used to
display system parameter values. This level
complies with the Read Only restrictions level.
read-write
Privileged level is used to access configuration
options. This level complies with the Read and
Write restrictions level.
admin
Supervisor level is used for highly secured
operations, such as adding a new user account,
showing the PPP chap secret, and setting the
device policy manager source.
