Cooling system: Draining - Refilling

a Use a compressed air nozzle to blow air into the
cooling system through the expansion bottle open-
ing to remove as much water as possible.
a Always replace the drain screws of the cylinder
block.
a Refit new drain screws on the cylinder block.
a Torque tighten the drain screws on the cylinder
block (25 N.m).
a Refit the drain screw on the cooling radiator.
a Connect the bottom cooling hose to the additional
cooling radiator.
a Fit the clip of the additional cooling radiator bottom
cooling hose using the tool (Mot. 1448).
a Connect the bottom cooling hose to the cooling radi-
ator.
a Fit the bottom cooling hose clip of the cooling radia-
tor using the tool (Mot. 1448).
III - FILLING

Note:
There are two procedures for filling the cooling
system:
- The procedure using the (Mot. 1700) is recom-
mended by Renault. It saves a considerable
amount of time because it does not require the
cooling system bleed screws to be opened,
- The procedure without a special tool.
1 - Filling procedure using the (Mot 1700)
a Fill the cooling system with engine coolant recom-
mended by the manufacturer (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consum-
ables - Products) using the tool (Mot. 1700). Consult
the user's manual for this tool (see Cooling system
filling and diagnostic tool: Use) (Technical Note
3857A, 19A, Cooling).
2 - Filling method without special tools
a
WARNING
It is essential to open all of the bleed screws to
remove as much as air as possible in the cooling
system. Failure to perform this procedure may
prevent the cooling system from filling properly
and may damage the engine.
COOLING
a Remove the bleed screw (5) from the exhaust gas
recirculation solenoid valve outlet hose at the timing
end.
a Remove the bleed screw (6) from the exhaust gas
cooler inlet hose with the engine running.
