Diesel injector: Removal - Refitting

a Insert a large diameter Phillips screwdriver (Ø > 8
mm) into the well to block the opening to the com-
bustion chamber.
a Blast out any scale residue in the well using a com-
pressed air nozzle.
a Remove the screwdriver and repeat the cleaning op-
eration for the injector well concerned twice in suc-
cession.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a Remove the blanking plug from the nozzle of the die-
sel injector(s).
WARNING
Do not remove the blanking plugs from each
component until the last moment.
Also, do not remove the components from their
packaging until they are to be fitted to the vehi-
cle.
Note:
If reusing an injector, refit it on the cylinder on
which it was fitted, marked during the removal
operation.
When replacing an injector, note the alphanu-
meric code of the new injector as well as the cyl-
inder on which it is fitted.

a Refit:
- a new seal on the diesel injector(s),
- the diesel injector(s),
- the diesel injector bracket.
a Torque tighten the diesel injector bracket bolt (27
N.m).
a Connect the connector(s) of the diesel injector or in-
jectors concerned.
III - FINAL OPERATION
a Remove the blanking plugs.
a Connect the diesel injector fuel return rail to the die-
sel injector(s).
a Refit the high pressure pipe(s) between the injector
rail and the diesel injector(s) (see 13B, Diesel injec-
tion, High pressure pipe between rail and injec-
tor: Removal - Refitting, page 13B-161) .
a Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refit-
ting) (80A, Battery).
a Check that there are no diesel leaks.
a Apply the after repair procedure using the Diagnos-
tic tool :
- connect the Diagnostic tool,
- select "Injection computer",
- go to repair mode,
- display the "Before/after repair procedure" for the
computer selected,
- select "Injector" in the "List of components con-
trolled by this computer" section,
- carry out the operations described in the "After re-
pair procedure" section.
Note:
When replacing one or more injectors, use the
Diagnostic tool to enter the alphanumeric codes
into the diesel injection computer for each injec-
tor noted during refitting.
