Catalytic converter: Removal - Refitting

IMPORTANT
Catalytic converters contain ceramic fibres, these
are contained within a closed unit, and cannot dis-
perse. Drilling or cutting catalytic converters is pro-
hibited.
IMPORTANT
Wear protective gloves during the operation.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
a Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Re-
fitting) (80A, Battery).
a Remove:
- the engine undertray bolts,
- the engine undertray.

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART

a Remove the clip (1) between the catalytic converter
and the expansion chamber.
a Take the catalytic converter out of the expansion
chamber.
a Remove:
- the nuts (2) between the catalytic pre-converter
- the catalytic converter,
- the seals between the catalytic pre-converter and

and the catalytic converter,
the catalytic converter.
Note:
The bracket between the front catalytic pre-con-
verter and the catalytic converter is located on
the right-hand side of the vehicle.
The bracket between the rear catalytic pre-con-
verter and the catalytic converter is located on
the left-hand side of the vehicle.
To remove the upper nuts of the catalytic pre-
converters on the catalytic converter, pass
through the front of the front axle subframe using
a 10 mm socket, a universal joint and a 250 mm
extension piece on the ratchet spanner used.
To remove the lower nuts of the catalytic pre-con-
verters on the catalytic converter, pass through
the back of the axle subframe, directly under the
nuts, using a 10 open-jawed spanner.
