Expansion chamber: Removal - Refitting

the designated cutting zone (see 19B, Exhaust, Ex-
haust: List and location of components, page
19B-1) .
a Remove:
- the exhaust clamp (2) between the expansion
chamber and the silencer,
- the expansion chamber.
AJ0, and ELECTRICAL SUNROOF + FIXED REAR
SECTION
a Retrieve the retaining clips for the sound insulation
between the connecting hose and the expansion
chamber on the connecting hose.
REFITTING
a Parts always to be replaced:
- the connecting hose seal on the catalytic converter
(for vehicles produced before 02/04/2008)
- the exhaust clamp between the expansion cham-
ber and the silencer
I - FOR VEHICLES PRODUCED BEFORE 02/04/2008
a Clean the bearing faces of the connecting hose and
the catalytic converter using abrasive pads (see
Vehicle: Parts and consumables for the repair) .
EXHAUST
a Afterwards, degrease these bearing faces using
surface cleaner (see Vehicle: Parts and consum-
ables for the repair) and clean cloths.
a Fit:
- a new connecting hose seal on the catalytic con-
- the connecting hose - expansion chamber assem-
a Tighten the connecting hose nuts on the catalytic
converter.
a Refit the silencer (see 19B, Exhaust, Silencer: Re-
moval - Refitting, page 19B-64) .
a Tighten the bolt of the connecting hose suspension
stud on the front axle subframe.
a Refit the engine undertray.
a Lower the vehicle on the lift.

AJ0, and ELECTRICAL SUNROOF + FIXED REAR
SECTION
a Fit two retaining clips for the sound insulation be-
tween the connecting hose and the expansion
chamber on the connecting house
a Refit the expansion chamber using a component
jack.
a Fit a new exhaust clamp between the expansion
chamber and the silencer.
a Fit without tightening the exhaust clamp between the
expansion chamber and the silencer to keep the ex-
pansion chamber on the silencer.
a Fit a new exhaust sleeve between the connecting
hose and the intermediate pipe (see 19B, Exhaust,
Exhaust: Precautions for the repair, page 19B-
18) .
a Adjust the expansion chamber in relation to the si-
lencer in order to prevent leaks from the connection.
a Torque tighten the exhaust clamp between the ex-
pansion chamber and the silencer (21 N.m).
