Alternator: Removal - Refitting

Equipment required
refrigerant charging station
Tightening torquesm
alternator bolts
IMPORTANT
Wear protective gloves during the operation.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (MR 415, 02A, Lifting equip-
ment).
a Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Re-
fitting) (MR 415, 80A, Battery).
a Remove:
- the engine cover,
- the engine undertray bolts,
- the engine undertray,
- the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (MR 415, 35A, Wheels and tyres),
- the front right-hand wheel arch liner (see Front
wheel arch liner: Removal - Refitting) (MR 415,
55A, Exterior protection),
- the accessories belt (see 11A, Top and front of
engine, Accessories belt: Removal - Refitting,
page 11A-13) .
a Drain the refrigerant circuit using a refrigerant
charging station (see Refrigerant circuit: Drain-
ing - Filling) (MR 415, 62A, Air conditioning).
a Remove the air conditioning compressor (see Com-
pressor: Removal - Refitting) (MR 415, 62A, Air
conditioning).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
a Remove the positive terminal nut on the alternator.
a Disconnect the alternator connector.
a Move aside the alternator wiring.
STARTING - CHARGING
25 Nm
a Remove the bolts (1) from the alternator.
a Move the alternator away from the multifunction sup-
port using a screwdriver.
a Remove the alternator.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a Compress the alternator rings (2) using pliers or a
vice to facilitate fitting.
