Catalytic converter: Removal - Refitting
M9R, and 742 or 744 or 746
a Move aside the catalytic converter to access the
half-clip support bolts on the cylinder block.
a Remove:
- the mounting half-clip bolts on the cylinder block,
- the mounting half-clips.
a Move the engine towards the front of the vehicle.
a Rotate the catalytic converter by 180˚ to remove it.

Note:
This operation requires two people.
a Remove:
- the catalytic converter,
- the catalytic converter seal,
- the turbocharger studs using a roller-type stud re-
moval tool or using the stud recesses.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a Using SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (MR 415, 04B,
Consumables - Products), clean and degrease the
bearing faces:
- on the turbocharger,
- on the exhaust pipe,
- of the catalytic converter.
a Always replace:
- the turbocharger studs,
- the catalytic converter nuts,
- the turbocharger seal,
- the connecting hose seal,
- the half-clips,
- the support clips,
- the catalytic converter studs.
a Refit new studs on the turbocharger.
a Torque tighten the turbocharger studs15 (Nm).
EXHAUST
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a
a Fit:
- the new catalytic converter seal on the turbocharg-
- the catalytic converter, inserting the lower part first.
a Rotate the catalytic converter in the engine compart-
ment once in the correct direction.
a Refit:
- the mounting half-clips,
- the half-clip support bolts on the cylinder block.
a Tighten the mounting half-clip bolts.
a Position the catalytic converter on the turbocharger.
a Refit:
- the catalytic converter nuts on the turbocharger,
- catalytic converter stay ,
- the strut nuts on the cylinder block,
- the strut nuts on the catalytic converter,
- the strut bolt on the catalytic converter.
a Tighten:
- the catalytic converter nuts on the turbocharger,
- the strut bolt on the catalytic converter,
- the strut nuts on the catalytic converter,
- the strut nuts on the cylinder block.
III - FINAL OPERATION
a Position the flexible pipe.
a Refit the catalytic converter studs.
a Tighten the catalytic converter studs using a roller-
type stud removal tool.
a Refit:
- the new seal between the flexible pipe and the cat-
- the flexible pipe nuts.
a Tighten the connecting hose nuts on the catalytic
converter.
