Exhaust gas cooler: Removal - Refitting

- the exhaust gas cooler mounting seal at the timing
end.
a Remove:
- the bolts (3) from the exhaust gas cooler mounting
on the gearbox end,
- the exhaust gas cooler,
- the exhaust gas cooler mounting seal at the gear-
box end.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a parts always to be replaced: exhaust gas cooler
seal (11,07,01,17).
a Always replace the clip on the cooling pipe between
the exhaust gas cooler and the exhaust gas recircu-
lation solenoid valve.

a Use GREY ABRASIVE PADS (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consuma-
bles - Products) to clean:
- the exhaust gas cooler joint faces, if they are being
reused,
- the joint face of the exhaust gas cooler support on
the gearbox side,
- the joint face of the exhaust gas cooler mounting at
the timing end.
Note:
Take care not to damage the joint faces of the
exhaust gas cooler to prevent any coolant leaks.
a Use SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consuma-
bles - Products) and CLEAN CLOTHS to degrease:
- the joint faces of the exhaust gas cooler if it is to be
reused,
- the joint face of the exhaust gas cooler support on
the gearbox side,
- the joint face of the exhaust gas cooler mounting at
the timing end.
WARNING
To ensure proper sealing, the gasket surfaces
must be clean, dry and not greasy (avoid any fin-
ger marks).
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a
Note:
The exhaust gas cooler must remain mobile in
relation to the exhaust gas recirculation mount-
ings so that it can be adjusted correctly.
a On the workbench, refit the exhaust gas cooler
mounting at the gearbox end fitted with a new ex-
haust gas cooler seal onto the exhaust gas cooler.
a Fit without tightening the exhaust gas cooler mount-
ing bolts at the gearbox end onto the exhaust gas
cooler.
a Refit the exhaust gas cooler mounting at the timing
end fitted with a new exhaust gas cooler seal onto
the exhaust gas cooler.
a Fit without tightening the exhaust gas cooler mount-
ing bolts at the timing end onto the exhaust gas cool-
er.
