Error Checking
A procedure performed by computer-based communications programs, hardware,
software, or firmware in a network monitoring device, instrument or equipment to ensure
complete and accurate data transfer.
Error Injection
The process of purposely adding errors into a data transmission in order to see if the
errors are detected. See also

Insert.
Error Insert
A common function button that allows a single error to be inserted into the transmit data
stream. The type of error and insertion rate are determined using the Error to Insert and
Error Insert Rate functions.
Error Ratio
In data transmission, the ratio of the number of incorrect elements transmitted to the
total number of elements transmitted.
ES
Errored Seconds. An incrementing value showing the number of seconds in which
errors were detected in the transmitted signal.
ESA
Errored Seconds Type A. This is an errored second that has a single error, and has no
defects that make it an SES.
ESB
Errored Seconds Type B. This is an errored second that has more than one error, but
not enough errors to be an SES, and no defects that would make it an SES.
ES-L
Errored Seconds - Line. This reports the duration of the incoming B2 errors in seconds.
This statistic also reports the percentage of errored seconds compared to the duration
of error-free seconds.
