The purpose of generating an error or alarm is to stress the network element that is
receiving the error or alarm by testing if it can detect the incoming error/alarm and then
report error/alarm statistics or if it can perform the appropriate actions required.
Depending on the selected mapping, the following error types are available:
Option
None
Frame
B1 Error
B2 Error
REI-L
B3 Error
Description
No errors are generated. Turns errors off.
Inserts a frame alignment error in the A1 and A2 bytes.
Generates a BIP-8 (Bit Interleaved Parity, 8-bit) error over
the Section layer. Bits in the B1 byte are toggled to create an
error.
This type of simulation allows an NE (in this case, the
downstream equipment) to be tested to verify if (1) it can
detect incoming errors, and (2) then conduct performance
monitoring such as error counts and rates.
Generates a BIP-8 error over the Line layer. Bits in the B2
byte are toggled to create an error.
This type of simulation allows an NE (in this case, the
downstream equipment) to be tested to verify if (1) it can
detect incoming errors, and (2) then conduct performance
monitoring such as error counts and rates.
Generates a Remote Error Indicator over the Line layer. An
REI-L is a count of B2 errors received at the far end.
When the system transmits this error, it simulates a
downstream NE sending an error count back to the source of
its incoming SONET signal. The system uses the M1 byte of
the Line OH to transmit the error count. This type of
simulation allows an NE (in this case, the upstream
equipment) to be tested to verify if (1) it can detect incoming
remote errors, and (2) then conduct performance monitoring
such as error counts and rates.
(This type of error was formerly called a Line Far End Block
Error - FEBE-L.)
Generates a BIP-8 error over the STS Path layer. Bits in the
SONET Tab
