Protocol Tabs
The K1 table decodes the values for bits 1-4 and bits 5-8. The K2 table
decodes the values for bits 1-4, bit 5, and bits 6-8.
Also displayed in the tables are the number of frames received that contain
the K1 and K2 bytes, and the elapsed time of the frames that contain the K1
and K2 bytes, for the last 15 byte sequences received.
Power Hot, Power Warm and Power Low Alarms
Pluggable laser modules that provide Digital Diagnostic information will inform the circuit
pack when the received optical power level has exceeded the module's Power Warm
and Power Hot thresholds.
The Power Warm alarm will begin to increment if the received optical power is within -
3dBm of the laser module's maximum receive power level threshold.
When Power Warm alarms are occurring, the RX: <power level> text, located below
the Laser On/Off button, will turn
Black and White, until the power level is reduced to a safe level.
Note: This is just a warning, and continued operation while the Power Warm alarm is
incrementing will not cause permanent damage.
The Power Hot alarm will begin to increment if the received optical power exceeds the
laser module's maximum receive power level threshold.
When Power Hot alarms are occurring, the RX: <power level> text, located below
the Laser On/Off button, will turn
Black and White, until the power level is reduced to a safe level.
Warning: Continued operation while the Power Hot alarm is incrementing will
cause permanent damage to the laser module.
The Power Low alarm is a user definable setting, that is typically set to -100 dBm
(disable) by default.
The user can adjust the Power Low Threshold setting from the Receive settings
page. When the received optical power level (in dBm) is lower than the power low
threshold setting, the Power Low alarm will occur.
Note: No damage to the module will be caused by low optical power, however the
quality of the SONET/SDH signal will degrade and will show errors or alarms if the
power level drops below the laser's minimum receive power level threshold.
