Inserting Multiple Errors
Various errors can be transmitted by the system. One reason for transmitting errors is to
determine if the receiving equipment can detect an error in the incoming signal.
Inserting multiple errors at a specified error rate allows you to monitor the network and
receiving equipment for any undesirable behavior as the error rate is increased.
To insert multiple errors:
1. Select a protocol processor mode.
2. Select Transmit and choose Error Alarm.
3. Select Error to Insert. The Select Error to Insert window appears.
4. Select an error.
5. Select Error Insert Rate. The Select Error Insert Rate window appears.
6. Select an Error Rate. The system starts transmitting errors at a constant error
rate.
7. After selecting an Error Type, you can also press the
the common function buttons to inject single errors.
Selecting None will stop the error transmission.
Power Hot, Power Warm and Power Low Alarms
Pluggable laser modules that provide Digital Diagnostic information will inform the circuit
pack when the received optical power level has exceeded the module's Power Warm
and Power Hot thresholds.
The Power Warm alarm will begin to increment if the received optical power is within -
3dBm of the laser module's maximum receive power level threshold.
When Power Warm alarms are occurring, the RX: <power level> text, located below
the Laser On/Off button, will turn
Black and White, until the power level is reduced to a safe level.
Note: This is just a warning, and continued operation while the Power Warm alarm is
incrementing will not cause permanent damage.
The Power Hot alarm will begin to increment if the received optical power exceeds the
laser module's maximum receive power level threshold.
