Decoding APS (K1 and K2) Values
The following only applies to SONET and SDH protocol processors.
The Automatic Protection Switching (APS) function monitors incoming APS activity. It
logs and displays the K1 and K2 byte sequences received by the unit. A maximum of 15
byte sequences can appear on the screen. You can choose to view APS activity in
either K1 and K2 Hex values or decode them.
To view received K1 and K2 values:
1. Select the Results button.
2. Select APS from the tabs along the left side of the Results screen.
3. Select APS View Mode, and choose whether to decode the K1/K2 byte's value
in either Linear or Ring Mode.
4. From the APS Results screen, you can decode a specific K1/K2 byte's value or
decode the values for all K1/K2 bytes.
To decode a specific K1/K2 byte value:
Select APS Summary.
The results table displays the K1 byte HEX value, K2 byte HEX value,
number of frames received that contain the K1 and K2 bytes, and the
elapsed time of the frames that contain the K1 and K2 bytes, for the last 15
byte sequences received.

The results table splits into two horizontal tables: the top table displaying K1
byte results; the bottom table displaying K2 byte results.
