Measuring Service Disruption
(Specifically for LAN/WAN Ethernet testing)
The unit can measure Service Disruption switching intervals in your network. These
statistics can be used to determine how long it takes for your network equipment to
react to a service disruption event and switch to a backup path.
When enabled, the trigger event to begin service disruption measurements occurs on
incoming packets with CRC/FCS errors, or when it stops detecting incoming packets.
The duration for every Ethernet service disruption event is measured in milliseconds,
with granular accuracy of .1 ms (100 µs).
When the Action state is configured for Continuous APS, the 10 most recent
measurements are displayed in the History window. Also the Minimum and Maximum
measurement times are logged, as well as an Average duration based on all
measurements taken since the test began.
To measure Ethernet service disruption activity:
1. Select the Test tab and choose Service Disrptn from the tabs along the left-side
of the screen.
