4. From Protection Switch Criteria, select the alarms, errors, and patterns to use
for triggering a service disruption.
5. The measurement parameters that appear on the Service Disruption screen are
dependant upon the protocol. A description of the possible parameters is
provided below. Selecting the parameter button displays a key pad, from which
you will enter the desired setting.
Consecutive Good Time Required: This function allows you to enter the
time-duration (in milliseconds) of consecutive error-free frames to elapse
before Protection Switch measurements stop accumulating. The value is
entered using a keypad.
Consecutive Good Frames Required: This function allows you to enter
the number of consecutive error-free frames to occur before Protection
Switch measurements stop accumulating. The value is entered using a
keypad.
6. From Action, select State. The Select APS Action dialog box appears.
7. Choose one of the following:
Single APS - Monitors for a single service disruption event. Seconds and
frames are reported and the State returns to Inactive.
Continuous APS - Constantly monitors for service disruption events, and
updates the seconds and frames reported.
The unit will immediately begin monitoring the incoming signal for an event. If it occurs,
the protection switch state and time will appear in both Protection Switch MilliSecs and
Protection Switch Frames present. The results will not include the number of good
frames, but the number of errored frames that occur before the first good frame. This is
based on the previously selected criteria for the consecutive time and frame
requirements.
A history of the event is recorded in the History Recent Milli Seconds and History
Recent Frames fields. A complete summary of events can be viewed by selecting the
System tab and choosing Service Disruption.
To stop monitoring Service Disruption measurement activity:
1. From Action, select State. The Select APS Action dialog box appears.
2. Select Stop APS.
To view the Service Disruption Summary:
1. Select the System tab.
