SDH Error/Alarm - Alarm Generated
This Alarm Generated function determines the type of error transmitted by the system.
The purpose of generating an error or alarm is to stress the network element that is
receiving the error or alarm by testing if it can detect the incoming error/alarm and then
report error/alarm statistics or if it can perform the appropriate actions required.
For more information about generating alarms, see
Tasks section of this chapter.
Depending on the selected mapping, the following alarm types are available:
Alarm
None
LOS
LOF
MS-AIS
431
Generates errors at the maximum rate listed below.
X is a negative integer exponent, for example 1e-3. The X
may vary based on the type of error selected.
Allows the user to enter a custom error rate anywhere
between the Minimum and Maximum allowed rates.
Description
No alarms are generated. Turns alarms off.
Loss of Signal. An all-zeros pattern is transmitted to simulate
a loss of signal or loss of optical power. This forces the
downstream SDH equipment to (1) generate an AIS alarm to
its downstream network elements (NE), and (2) generate an
RDI alarm to its upstream NEs.
Loss of Frame. An all-zeros pattern is inserted into the A1
and A2 framing bytes of the Section OH. This simulates the
absence of a valid framing pattern. This forces the
downstream SDH equipment to generate an AIS alarm to its
downstream network elements (NE) and generate an RDI
alarm to its upstream NEs.
Multiplex Section Alarm Indication Signal. The transmission
of an MS-AIS to a downstream NE forces that NE to send an
AU-AIS alarm to the next downstream NE. The NE will also
send an MS-RDI alarm to its upstream equipment.
