Engine overhaul - Rebuild
Reassembling and refitting the piston-connecting rod assemblies
Check piston wear visually (
B2.04).
Fit the oil scraper ring (F) in the respective seat
on the piston (A).
Orienting correctly, fit the piston rings (E) in the
respective seats on the piston (A).
The upper ring must be fitted with the inner
groove facing upwards.
The lower ring must be fitted with the outer
groove facing downwards.
Fit the rings (E) with the respective gaps on
opposite sides of the piston from one another,
and not facing towards either the exhaust or
intake sides of the piston.
Assemble the piston (A) onto the shank (C) of
the respective connecting rod.
The alphanumeric code stamped on the
connecting rod shank (C) must face towards
the exhaust side of the cylinder.
Fit and install the piston pin (D).
Fit and fasten the indicated ring.
Remove the connecting rod caps (B) from the
respective shanks (C), undoing the indicated
screws.
