Connecting VoIP End Devices to the Ethernet Port
VoIP End Devices
By means of an activation in the Upgrade Center (for a fee), the PBX can be extended by two
VoIP channels for internal and/or external use. The COMpact 3000 VoIP has one VoIP channel
for external use and one VoIP channel for internal and/or external use by default.
When using the VoIP channels internally, the Ethernet port is suitable for connecting the
following end devices:
• COMfortel VoIP 2500 AB system telephone (recommended, as of firmware version 4.0B)
• Standard VoIP end device (SIP)
• Soft phone (SIP)
Important: Note that some standard VoIP end devices can only use the
functions of the PBX to a very limited extent.
Connecting VoIP End Devices to the Ethernet Port
Requirements:
– Internal VoIP channel (COMpact 3000 VoIP or VoIP channels obtained at the Upgrade
Center and enabled by it)
– Line lengths between the devices shorter than 100 m
– Patch cable
– Single switch or individual network (LAN) with a recommended transmission rate of 100
Mbps
Note: For VoIP data communication in combination with the transmission of
limited amounts of data, a data transmission rate in the LAN of 10 Mbps is
sufficient under certain circumstances. For VoIP data communication in
combination with the transmission of large amounts of data (e. g.
downloads), we recommend upgrading to a data transmission rate of
100 Mbps. For this purpose, replace not only all of the active network compo-
nents (e. g. switch and router), but also all of the passive network compo-
nents (e. g. cables and wall sockets). For a reliable support of 100 Mbps, you
need cables and wall sockets of at least Category 5 (CAT5).
– To use DiffServ to prioritize speech packets: DiffServ support on all active network compo-
nents available and enabled
