Configuring NAT Traversal and the STUN Server
A STUN server provides information on request to subscribers on a private network. This infor-
mation includes the IP address and port outside of their private network that is viewed as the
source of their data. This information is entered in the request, instead of the actual private IP
address/port.
Configuration can be carried out as follows:
• Separately for VoIP providers
• Via the configuration manager
Requirements:
– External VoIP channel (COMpact 3000 VoIP or VoIP channels purchased and activated in
the Upgrade Center)
– Configuration manager, opened with sufficient authorization
– A configured DNS server and, if necessary, an HTTP proxy server
1. Open the page CONFIGURATION > Voice over IP (VoIP) > VoIP provider.
2. Click
in the line of the corresponding VoIP provider.
It opens the page Provider configuration > Provider.
3. Under SIP, select one of the following options:
deactivated: NAT traversal is not performed by the PBX. The router, which
connects the Local Area Network with the Internet, should be a well-
functioning, SIP-aware router which performs NAT traversal.
activated with usage of STUN: NAT traversal is performed by the PBX. For
this purpose, a STUN server must be entered additionally (see step 5 to 7).
activated: NAT traversal is performed by the PBX. The SIP request additionally
contains the part rport, in which the IP addresses used (local, public) are
transported.
Note: When selected activated: If there are problems with unilateral call
connections, a STUN server should be used (see activated with usage of
STUN).
4. Under RTP, select one of the following options:
deactivated: NAT traversal is not performed by the PBX.
