Relay shaft bearing: Removal - Refitting

REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
a Remove:
- the engine undertray bolts,
- the engine undertray.
a Drain the gearbox (see 21A, Manual gearbox,
Manual gearbox oils: Draining - Filling, page
21A-2) .
a Remove:
- the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres),
- the front right-hand driveshaft (see 29A, Drive-
shafts, Front right-hand driveshaft: Removal -
Refitting, page 29A-7) .
- the differential output seal (see 21A, Manual gear-
box, Differential output seal: Removal - Refit-
ting, page 21A-6) .
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
a Remove the lock ring (1) from the bearing (2) .
Note:
Do not scratch the contact surface of the lip seal
on the relay shaft (3) .
a Extract the relay shaft bearing (2) using a press and
an extractor.

REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a Always replace:
- the relay shaft bearing,
- the relay shaft bearing lock ring,
a Lubricate the relay shaft mating face into which the
bearing is inserted.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a Fit a new bearing on the relay shaft.
a Fit the bearing to the end using a tube, so that it
rests on the inner bearing race.
a Refit a new lock ring.
a Using SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consum-
ables - Products), clean and degrease the relay
bearing bore.
III - FINAL OPERATION.
a Refit:
- the differential output seal (see 21A, Manual gear-
box, Differential output seal: Removal - Refit-
ting, page 21A-6) ,
- the front right-hand driveshaft (see 29A, Drive-
shafts, Front right-hand driveshaft: Removal -
Refitting, page 29A-7) .
- the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres).
a Fill the gearbox and check the level (see 21A, Man-
ual gearbox, Manual gearbox oils: Draining - Fill-
ing, page 21A-2) .
a Refit the engine undertray.
