Relay shaft bearing: Removal - Refitting

REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
a Remove:
- the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres),
- the front right-hand driveshaft (see 29A, Drive-
shafts, Front right-hand driveshaft: Removal -
Refitting, page 29A-7) .
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
a Remove:
- the relay shaft bearing lock ring (1) ,
- the relay shaft bearing (2) using a press and an ex-
tractor.
a Take care not to scratch the lip seal mating face on
the relay shaft (3) .
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a Lubricate the relay shaft mating face into which the
bearing is inserted.
a Always replace the lock ring.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a Fit the new relay shaft bearing.

a Fit the relay shaft bearing until it is fully inserted us-
ing a tube and taking hold of the relay shaft inner
bearing ring.
a Refit a new lock ring.
III - FINAL OPERATION.
a Refit:
- the front right-hand driveshaft (see 29A, Drive-
shafts, Front right-hand driveshaft: Removal -
Refitting, page 29A-7) ,
- the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres).
