Direct Internal Calls
A caller can access directly to enter a mailbox, send a Quick Message, or make a network call. For these
direct internal calls, the DEFINITY G3i sends this type of call record:
a = XXX Name to YYY
XXX is the number of the calling extension and YYY is the access extension number. The Octel 200/300
uses the call record information to identify the calling extension.
The Octel 200/300 answers the direct internal call with a prompt determined by the Octel 200/300 COS
assigned to the calling extension's mailbox. The caller then has access to Octel 200/300 call processing
and messaging features.
With called party identification, several enhanced mailbox features are available for extensions
associated with single mailboxes. To take advantage of these features, a caller must be calling from the
extension associated with the caller's mailbox. The Octel 200/300 identifies the mailbox associated with
the caller's extension, so the caller may

When calling from any extension, a caller may enter their own mailbox by pressing
their mailbox number and security code.
Forwarded Internal Calls
When a caller at one extension calls another extension and the call is forwarded to Octel 200/300 the
DEFINITY G3i sends a call record in the following format:
a = XXX Name to YYY Name
XXX is the number of the calling extension, YYY is the number of the original called extension, and R is
a code indicating the reason the call was forwarded.
The Octel 200/300 answers the call, prompts the caller with the status of the extension, and offers
messaging and call processing options. If the caller is calling from an extension that has a valid mailbox
and leaves a message, this mailbox number is attached to the caller's message so the Octel 200/300 can
identify which caller left the message. When the person receiving the message listens to it, the Octel
200/300 is able to play the name of the caller who left the message before playing the message itself. The
person receiving the message may automatically reply to the message.
