HIC-1 Headset Adapter Cable
Use of the HIC-1 Product
The HIC-1 product allows the use of Avaya universal headsets on Avaya (Lucent) 8400 -,
6400-, and 4400-series telephones. The HIC-1 allows the user to directly connect a
headset into the handset port of the telephone.
Installation of the HIC-1 Cable Adapter
Connect the modular plug of the HIC-1 Adapter cable to the headset port of your
telephone. If your telephone has no headset port, disconnect the handset cord from
the phone and connect the HIC-1 into the handset port.
Connecting a Headset to the HIC-1 Cable Adapter
Any Avaya headset will connect to the Quick Disconnect ™ (QD) on the HIC-1 cable.
Plug the headset QD into the HIC-1.
Making Telephone Calls using the HIC-1 and a Headset
Some models of Definity ® telephone sets from Avaya (Lucent) allow a user to make a call
without lifting the handset. Dial tone is given when you press a button on the phone.
1) Press the "line" button on the phone and listen for dial tone in the headset.
2) Adjust the volume to the headset by adjusting the handset volume control on the phone.
Take care to place the microphone of the headset approximately 2.5cm (1 inch) from the
corner of your mouth. Refer to the headset user's guide for more information on the use
of the headset.
On other Definity telephone sets without a dedicated headset port:
1) Remove the handset from the cradle and listen for dial tone in the headset.
2) Adjust the volume to the headset by adjusting the handset volume control on
the phone. Take care to place the microphone of the headset approximately 2.5cm
(1 inch) from the corner of your mouth. Refer to the headset user's guide for more
information on the use of the headset.

Uso del producto HIC-1
El producto HIC-1 permite la utilización de los auriculares universales de Avaya
en los teléfonos series: 8400-, 6400- y 4400-. El HIC-1 permite que el usuario conecte

FCC Registration Information
This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the bottom of the modular adapter is a label that
contains, among other information, the FCC registration number and ringer equivalence number (REN) for this
equipment. If requested, this information must be provided to the telephone company.
The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operation or procedures that could affect
the operation of the equipment. If this happens, the telephone company should provide you advance notice in
order for you to make the necessary modifications to maintain uninterrupted services.
If you experience problems with your headset, please refer to the warranty section for information on warranty
and repair service. If the problem is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may request
that you remove the equipment until the problem is resolved. In extreme cases, the telephone company may be
forced to disconnect your service before notifying you of the problem.
