Message Waiting Indication. Message waiting indication enables the Octel 200/300 to activate and
deactivate the message waiting lamp available on phones to indicate when there are messages waiting on
the Octel 200/300.
.
If internal callers use the System 75 Leave Word Calling feature when calling another station, the
MWI lamp on the phone will light up. The person receiving the call does not know whether the
lamp is for message waiting indication or Leave Word Calling indication and will have to check
for both types.
.
In large configurations, there may be delays in message waiting activation and deactivation under
certain circumstances (for example, broadcast messages). Large configurations can create a high
volume of message waiting commands within a short period of time. People may notice a delay in
their lamps being turned ON or OFF. Octel advises that this possibility be discussed during
customer training.
Called Party Identification. Called party identification allows the Octel 200/300 to identify
The source of direct calls (internal extension or external trunk group)
-
The source extension or trunk group, the called extension, and the status of forwarded calls
-
With this information, the Octel 200/300 can process the various types of calls appropriately. The Octel
200/300 receives the necessary call information from the System 75 through the digital ports of the APIC.
The ports perform both the function of collecting call information and of answering/transferring the call.
System 75 Call Coverage
The System 75 provides several options for call coverage. An individual extension may temporarily have
its calls forwarded to another extension with the Call Forwarding All Calls feature, or groups of
extensions may be assigned a call coverage path for ring-no-answer/busy coverage.
Call Forwarding All Calls
The System 75 Call Forwarding All Calls feature allows an individual extension to temporarily redirect
its calls to another extension for coverage. This feature can be activated or deactivated at any time from
the extension for which it is configured. The covering extension is specified when the feature is activated.
When Call Forwarding All Calls is active for an individual extension, calls forwarded to the message
server are answered with the prompt "(name) is unavailable."
Call Coverage Path
The System 75 Call Coverage feature provides more selective coverage for one or more extensions with a
designated coverage path. The coverage path determines under what conditions calls are forwarded to
coverage, as well as which extension(s) are provided with coverage. Coverage paths are defined during
the configuration of the System 75 and may specify the following coverage criteria:
Forward to coverage if extension is active
-
(at least one of the extension's call appearances is in use)
Forward to coverage if extension is busy
-
(all of the extension's call appearances are in use)
