2. Configure one extension (phone B) with multiple line appearance.
In the tests that follow, the number of this extension is referred to as EXTB.
3. Allocate one digital extension (phone C) in the M1. It should be configured the same as the extension
for the digital ports (2616).
Testing Northern Telecom M1/SL-1 Hunt Group Configuration
The tests described in this section are performed before the actual installation of the NPIC card(s).

If the Octel 200/300 ports are not connected to their assigned M1 extensions, the Octel 200/300
will not handle calls properly.
Begin these testing procedures after the test extensions are configured, the test phones A and B are
installed, and the M1 is prepared for testing.
1. INITIAL SETUP OF PORT CONNECTION FOR EACH TEST
Before connecting the 25-pair cables to the back of the Octel 200/300, connect phone C to the jack
position of the modular adapter of each Octel 200/300 port extension being tested. Starting with port 1,

Connect the modular adapter to the 25-pair cable associated with the configured slot.
b. Connect a digital telephone (phone C) to the jack position of the adapter that corresponds to the
correct port location.

Repeat the following tests for each port until every Octel 200/300 port has been tested successfully.
2. PRELIMINARY DIGITAL EXTENSION AND HUNT GROUP TEST
Use this test to verify that dial tone is present on each of the extensions used for the NPIC ports
and to verify that PBX is correctly configured for the hunt group. (The phones used in this test
should be digital.)

Go off-hook on key 0 (SCRxxxx). Is a dial tone present?

b. From phone B, call the extension for the first NPIC port. Does phone C ring?
Examine the display of phone C. The second line of the display should contain this information:

Put the call on hold.
d. Go off hook on the second line appearance and again call phone C. The display should contain
this information:
EXTA EXTC (port 1)

Repeat steps a. to d. for each of the NPIC ports.
