Called Party Identification. With the CPI feature, various types of calls may be processed differently
as follows:
Direct Calls From External Trunks
If the call comes in on a trunk, the M1 provides the Octel 200/300 with the trunk access code as the
source of the call. Trunks may be directed to Octel 200/300 ports for answering via the M1
auto-terminate feature. The Octel 200/300 determines how to process each call based on this trunk group
number. The Octel 200/300 answers with the company greeting appropriate to the trunk or port group.
For extensions that forward to the Octel 200/300 for call coverage (secondary answering), the Octel
200/300 can be programmed to perform a transfer to ringing so that the caller immediately hears ringback
until the called party or Octel 200/300 answers.
If the called extension returns a busy signal, the Octel 200/300 returns to the caller and prompts "(name)
is on the phone. Please leave a message . . ." (If the called extension is programmed to forward to Octel
200/300 on a busy condition, it does not return a busy signal. The Octel 200/300 hears ringing and
completes the transfer.)
Since a COS can be assigned to trunk groups, a company greeting can be configured for different groups.
All Octel 200/300 ports can remain in one hunt group. This is more efficient than having multiple port
hunt groups to provide different company greetings.
Caution!
Forwarded External Calls
When the M1 forwards a call (RNA, Busy, or Forward All Calls) to the Octel 200/300, the access code of
the incoming trunk group number and the called extension number are sent to the Octel 200/300 by the
M1. The M1 tells the Octel 200/300 the reason the extension was forwarded (no answer, busy, or all
calls). If forwarded after a certain number of rings, however, the caller hears rings before the Octel
200/300 answers. The Octel 200/300 processes the call as follows.
If the Octel 200/300 knows the status of the extension, the prompt says "(name) doesn't answer/is busy/is
unavailable. Please leave a message at the tone, enter another extension number, or press zero for
(personal) assistance." If the greeting is ON, it plays instead of the prompt.
If the caller presses
INFORMATION Table for the mailbox, port, or trunk. Or, if a personal assistant is configured in that
mailbox, the Octel 200/300 performs a screened transfer to the Personal Assistance position. If that
position does not answer or is busy, the Octel 200/300 prompts "Personal Assistance is unavailable.
Please leave a message at the tone for (name) or press zero for the operator."
It may be desired to direct some types of calls (i.e., certain trunk calls and/or calls to selected extensions)
immediately to Personal Assistance instead of offering messaging or calling options. For this application,
the Octel 200/300 may be configured to transfer unanswered calls automatically to Personal Assistance
extensions. As a further option , the Octel 200/300 may be configured to give the caller the choice of
overriding the automatic transfer and leaving a message.
