Look at the displays of ringing lines on the digital phone. The second line of the display should
contain this information:

If the display does not contain this information, determine the cause and correct the problem
before continuing.

6. MESSAGE WAITING INDICATOR TEST
(For installations using the Octel 200/300 to control message-waiting indicators)
Use this test to verify that a message-waiting indicator can be set and cleared using the
MIK/MCK feature codes programmed.
a.
In turn, connect the modular adapter to the 25-pair cable associated with each slot that contains a
port (or ports) configured for lamp message-waiting. Repeat the test for each MWI port.
b. Connect the digital phone to the jack position of the adapter that corresponds to the first of the
MWI port being tested.
c.
Go off-hook on phone C and press the MIK feature key followed by the extension number to
activate MWI for phone A, then hang up phone C. Is phone A's message-waiting indicator ON?
NO
d. Go off hook and press the MCK key extension number to cancel the waiting indication for phone
A. Is phone A's message-waiting indicator OFF?
NO

Repeat steps a. through d. for all ports configured.
7. DISPLAY TEST FOR DIRECT EXTERNAL CALLS
Use this test to verify that the NPIC ports receive the correct display information from the PBX
for direct internal and direct external calls.
a.
Using phone A, call out of the PBX and back in on the trunk that autoterminates at the NPIC
hunt group.
b. Look at the display on the ringing line of the digital phone. The second line of the display should
contain this information:
XXX YYY
XXX is the ACOD associated with the trunk group the call came in on. YYY is the member of
that trunk group. If the display does not contain this information, determine the cause, and
correct the problem before continuing.

Hang up phone A and phone C.
