Cable maintenance

tenance is primarily concerned with prevent-
ing deterioration and providing proper lubri-
cation to allow the cable to move freely with-
in its housing. Cable removal is straight for-
ward and uncomplicated. Removal is not dis-
cussed within this section.

Cable routing is very important. For details of
cable routing, see the "CABLE ROUTING"
at the end of this manual. Improperly routed
or adjusted cables may make the motorcycle
unsafe for operation.
1. Remove the cable.
2. Check for free movement of the cable
within
its housing.
If movement 1s
obstructed, check for frayed strands or
kinking of the cable. If damage is
evident, replace the cable.
3. To lubricate the cable, hold it in a
vertical position. Apply lubricant to the
uppermost end of the cable. Leave it in
the vertical position until the lubricant
appears at the bottom. Allow any excess
to drain, and reinstall the cable.

L'entretien des cables consiste en premier
lieu a eviter la deterioration et a fournir un
graissage correct pour permettre a chaque
cable de coulisser librement dans sa gaine.
La depose de cable est directe et facile; elle
n'est done pas decrite dans cette section.

Le
cheminement des cables est tres important.
Pour plus de details concernant ce chemine-
ment, voir le paragraphe de "CHEMINEMENT
DES CABLES"

cables mal mis en place ou ma! regles peuvent
rendre la motocyclette dangereuse

utiliser.
1. Enlever le cable.
2. Contr6ler si le cable coulisse librement
dans sa gaine. Si le mouvement est en-
trave, contr6ler si
ie
cable ne presente
pas de brins erailles ou s'il n'est pas vrille.
Si le dommage est evident, changer le
cable.
3. Pour Ju brifier le cable, le tenir vertical.
Appliquer le lubrifiant a l'extremite
superieure du cable.
Le tenir vertical
jusqu'a ce que le lubrifiant ll:pparaisse
a
l'extremite inferieure. Laisser s'ecouler
tout exces de lubrifiant puis remonter
le cable.

Mantenimiento de los cables

primario del mantenimiento de los cables es
evitar la deterioraci6n y proveer una lubri-
caci6n que posibilita al cable moverse libre-
mente dentro de su envoltura. La extracci6n
de los cables es muy simple Y, por lo tanto,
nose considera en esta secci6n.

La instalaci6n de los cables es muy impor-
tante. Para mas detalles sabre el particular,
ver INSTALACION DE LOS CABLES al final
de este manual.
Una instalaci6n o ajuste
incorrecto de los cables hacer insegura a la
motocicleta.
1. Extraer el cable.
2. Verificar si se mueve libremente dentro
de su envoltura.
Si el movimiento se
viera obstruido, verificar si el cable
estuviera deshilachado o torcido. Si el
dafio resultara evidente, cambiar el cable.
3. Para lubricar el cable, mantenerlo en
posici6n vertical. Aplicarle lubricante al
extreme superior y dejarlo en posici6n
vertical hasta que el lubricante aparezca
por el extreme opuesto. Dejar que gotee
el exceso y reinstalar el cable.
