27.2.2 Pin Configuration for UART1 and UART2

Table 27-2 lists the pins used for the UART1 and UART2 modules. These pins are multiplexed with other
functions on the device, and must be configured for UART operation.
The user must ensure that the data direction bits in the GPIO are set to the
correct direction for proper operation. See Section 32.5.1, "Data Direction
Registers," on page 32-9 for details.

This output pin serves two purposes. Normally, the receiver
indicates that it is ready to receive data by asserting this pin
(low). When the receiver detects a pending overrun, it
negates this pin. For other applications, this pin functions as
a general purpose output controlled by the CTS bit in UART
Control Register 2.
