Launch the beam join editor by
clicking
on the Tools toolbar (for editing all joins), or
selecting Tools
Edit Beam Joins (for editing all joins) from the menu, or
right clicking an endpoint and selecting Edit Beam Join (for editing the individual join).
The editing mode activates showing cutback arrow controls at the end join of beams.
In this mode, beams without common end joins gray out and only shared end joins display arrow controls.
If a perceived end join grays out, exit the Beam Join Editor and correct the endpoints. One way to verify if
beams are end joined is to select each beam with the Modify tool. If their common endpoint appears, they
are end joined.
Beam Join Editor Option Bar
When the editor opens, its option bar enables. This series of checkboxes allows you to filter the join controls
based on material. Material is based on the Structural Material Type Parameter set in the beam family. Join
controls will only show for the checked materials.
See
Beam Properties
on page 802.
Editing Cutback
The beam join editor displays arrow controls used to edit beam cutback. The arrows display as follows.
If a beam is cutback, the arrow points toward the join.
If a beam is not cutback, the arrow points away from the join.
Clicking the arrows toggle the cutback in the direction the arrow is pointing. For example, a beam that has
cutback has it removed when clicking an arrow that points toward the joint.
NOTE Adjusting cutback with the Beam Join Editor will not reset or change default extension settings in Element
Properties, Symbolic Cutback Distance settings, or shape handle beam geometry adjustments.
