Creating a Door Family

You create door families by defining what the door looks like in plan view, elevation view, and 3D view.

Starting a Door Family

When you first start the door family creation, you can open a number of views, including: an interior
elevation view of a wall with a set of reference planes and a dimension, a plan view of the wall with reference
planes and dimensions, and a 3D view. It does not matter in which view you start.
You need to define geometry so that you see what you would like in the various views. Notice that Revit
Architecture has already provided an opening for the door in a wall. It also has created and dimensioned
several sets of reference planes. Revit Architecture has even labeled the height and width dimensions. Use
the reference planes to create your sketches for your door geometry. If necessary, modify the dimensions to
the sizes you want to create for your first door. Notice on the width dimension there is an equality dimension.
The equality dimension maintains the center origin reference plane in the middle if you modify the width.
