(such as roofs, curtain walls, floors, and walls). Building Maker allows for a cumulative understanding of the
relationship between expressive and built form as the design develops.
Building Maker includes the Mass Editor, which allows you to create mass families. You can use Building
Maker commands to create building elements from these mass families.

Creating a Mass Family

Mass families are created similarly to other Revit Architecture families. You can create mass families within
a project (in-place mass families) or you can create mass families outside of a project (loaded mass families).
In-place mass families are used for mass forms that are unique to a project. Loaded mass families are typically
used when you will be placing multiple instances of the family in a project, or when you will use mass
families in multiple projects.
For both in-place mass families and loaded mass families, a version of the Family Editor called the Mass
Editor is available. You can nest other mass families into the mass family that you are creating. (See
Editor on page 376.)
Predefined mass families are available in the Mass folder of the family content library that was installed with
Revit Architecture.

Creating an In-Place Mass Family

1 Click Modelling menu
2 Enter a name for the in-place mass family, and click OK.
3 Create the desired shapes using the Solid Form and Void Form tools on the Mass tab of the
