Terminology and Functions
T
Targeted VoIP Access Point
An external call can be initiated via a specific VoIP account using a targeted VoIP access point.
The Internet service provider's network can only be accessed via a targeted VoIP access point,
e.g., when querying the mailbox.
TCP
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is a transport protocol that segments data into packets up
to a specified size and reliably sends these individual data packets in the correct sequence to
the recipient address. In this process, every data packet sent must be resent until it has been
confirmed as arrived. In order to make sure this happens, a large amount of information is sent
along with the actual payload data. Most Internet services are implemented with TCP,
e.g., HTTP (WWW), SMTP/POPS (e-mail), etc.
Telephone Book
The telephone book is used for storing useful or frequently dialled telephone numbers along
with the associated names. Existing entries are offered in the telephone book on a connected
system telephone, automatically or after manual transmission.
If a telephone number that is entered in the telephone book is transmitted during a call, the
assigned name is displayed instead of the telephone number is displayed on system
telephones or on alpha-numeric CLIP-enabled end devices.
Telephone Number Display (CLIP)
The telephone number display (CLIP) enables the telephone number of the caller to be shown
on the display of a system telephone, an ISDN telephone or on a CLIP-capable analogue
telephone. The prerequisite is that the caller transmits a telephone number.
A few CLIP-capable analogue telephones support the recording of the date and time in
conjunction with the caller list. On some, it is also possible to display the name instead of the
telephone number.
Terminating Resistor
An ISDN S
bus with multiple wall sockets must be installed at each end, including two termi-
0
nating resistors for preventing interference. These resistors are installed in the last ISDN wall
socket(s) by an electrician.
