DTC P0983: Open in Shift Solenoid Valve D
Circuit
NOTE:
• Record all freeze data and review General
Troubleshooting Information (see page 14-4) before
y o u troubleshoot.
• This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem
and cannot be caused by a mechanical p r o b l e m in the
t r a n s m i s s i o n .
1. Clear the DTC w i t h the HDS.
2. Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the D
position in all five gears.
3. Check that DTC P0983 recurs.
Is DTC P0983
indicated?
YES — G o t o step 7.
NO—Go to step 4.
4. Choose Shift Solenoid D in Miscellaneous Test
M e n u , and test the shift solenoid valve D w i t h the
HDS.
Is the system
normal?
Y E S — G o t o step 5.
N O — G o t o step 7.
5. Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the D
position in all five gears.
6. M o n i t o r the OBD status for P0983 in the DTCs/
Freeze Data in A/T Mode M e n u for a pass/fail.
Does the result indicate
a fail?
YES — G o t o step 7.
NO—Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this
t i m e . Check for poor connections or loose terminals
at shift solenoid valve D and the PCM. If the tester
indicates NOT COMPLETE, return to step 4 and
recheck. •
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
8. J u m p the SCS line w i t h the HDS.
9. Disconnect PCM connectors A (31P), C (22P), and D
(17P).
10. Measure the resistance between PCM connector
terminals C2 and A3 or D16.

YES—Check for loose or poor connections at PCM
connector terminal C2. If the connection is OK,
update the PCM if it does not have the latest
software, or substitute a k n o w n - g o o d PCM
(see page 14-7), then recheck. If the s y m p t o m /
indication goes away w i t h a k n o w n - g o o d PCM,
replace the original PCM. •
N O — G o to step 11.
