36. W h i l e expanding the snap ring of the countershaft
bearing using snap ring pliers, install the
transmission housing onto the bearing part-way.
Then release the snap ring pliers, and push d o w n
on the housing until it b o t t o m s and the snap ring
snaps into place in the transmission housing snap
ring groove.
37. Install the transmission housing m o u n t i n g bolts
(20 bolts) along w i t h the t r a n s m i s s i o n hanger (A)
and the transmission g r o u n d t e r m i n a l bracket (B),
and tighten the bolts in t w o or m o r e steps in a criss-
cross pattern to 44 N-m (4.5 kgf-m, 33 Ibf-ft).

40. Install the special tool onto the mainshaft.

Install the n e w lock washer (A) w i t h the marked
side (B) up over the mainshaft (C), and apply the
surfaces of the lock washer and old locknut (D) w i t h
ATF.
42. Install the old locknut, and tighten it to seat the lock
washer to 178 N-m (18.2 kgf-m, 132 Ibf-ft), then
remove the old locknut.
38. Install and tighten the t w o m o u n t i n g bolts (C) to
39 N-m (4.0 kgf-m, 29 Ibf-ft). Keep the m o u n t i n g
bolts free of grease or o i l .
39. Install and tighten the 12 x 1.25 m m bolt to 64 N-m
(6.5 kgf-m, 47 Ibf-ft).
