How to Troubleshoot Circuits at the PCM
Special Tools Required
Backprobe set 07SAZ-001000A (two required)
1. Pull back the carpet, and remove the passenger's
center lower cover and rear vent duct (see step 5 on
page 20-74).
2. Inspect the circuit on the PCM, according to the
DTC troubleshooting, w i t h the backprobe set and a
digital multimeter.
3. Connect the backprobe adapters (A) to the stacking
patch cords (B), and connect the cords to a
multimeter (C).

4. Using the w i r e insulation as a guide for the
contoured t i p of the backprobe adapter, gently slide
the t i p into the connector f r o m the w i r e side until it
touches the end of the w i r e t e r m i n a l .

Clear A / T DTCs, and PCM Reset Procedures
1. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Clear the DTC(s) on the HDS screen.
OBD Status
The OBD Status shows the current system status of
each DTC and all of the parameters. This f u n c t i o n is
used to see if the technician's repair w a s successfully
finished. The results of diagnostic tests for the DTC are
displayed as:
• PASS: On Board Diagnosis is successfully finished.
• FAILED: On Board Diagnosis has finished but failed.
• NOT COMPLETED: The On Board Diagnosis w a s
running but is out of the Enable conditions of the DTC.
How to Substitute the PCM
1. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. J u m p the SCS line w i t h the HDS.
4. Remove the PCM, and install a k n o w n - g o o d PCM.
5. Rewrite the immobilizer code w i t h t h e PCM
replacement procedure in the HDS; this w i l l allow
y o u to start the engine.
6. After c o m p l e t i n g your test, reinstall the original
PCM and rewrite the immobilizer code w i t h the
PCM replacement procedure in the HDS again.
5. If y o u cannot get to the w i r e side of the connector
or the w i r e side is sealed, disconnect the connector
and use the tester probe to probe the connectors
f r o m the terminal side. Do not force the probe into
the connector.
