Idle Control System
E l e c t r i c a l P o w e r S t e e r i n g ( E P S ) S i g n a l C i r c u i t T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g
1. Start the engine, and let it idle.
2. A l i g n the steering wheel straight ahead.
3. Check the EPS SIGNAL in the DATA LIST w i t h the
HDS.
Does it indicate LOW?
Y E S — G o t o step 4.
N O — G o t o step 6.
4. T u r n the steering wheel quickly to the full lock
position.
5. Check the EPS SIGNAL in the DATA LIST w i t h the
HDS.
Does it change to HIGH?
Y E S — T h e EPS signal circuit is O K . B
N O — G o t o step 12.
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. J u m p the SCS line w i t h the HDS.
8. Disconnect PCM connector E (31P).
9. Disconnect EPS control unit 13P connector.
10. Connect PCM connector t e r m i n a l E17 to body
g r o u n d w i t h a j u m p e r wire.

11. Check for continuity between EPS control unit 13P
connector terminal No. 13 and body g r o u n d .

Is there continuity?
Y E S — S u b s t i t u t e a known-good EPS control unit
(see page 17-66), and recheck. •
NO—Repair open in the w i r e between the PCM
(E17) and the EPS control u n i t . H
