DTC Troubleshooting
DTC P0705: Short in Transmission Range
Switch Circuit
NOTE:
• Record all freeze data and review General
Troubleshooting Information (see page 14-4) before
y o u troubleshoot.
• This code is caused by an electrical circuit p r o b l e m
and cannot be caused by a mechanical p r o b l e m in the
transmission.
1. Clear the DTC w i t h the HDS.
2. Start the engine.
3. M o v e the shift lever t h r o u g h all positions. Stop for
at least 1 second in each position, and m o n i t o r the
OBD status for P0705 in the DTCs/Freeze Data in
A/T M o d e Menu for a pass/fail.
Does the result indicate a fail?
Y E S — G o t o step 4.
NO—Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this
t i m e . Check for an intermittent short in the w i r e
between the transmission range switch and the
PCM. If the tester indicates NOT COMPLETE, return
to step 2 and recheck. •
4. Inspect the transmission range switch (see page
14-270).
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
6. Measure the voltage between PCM connector
terminals E19 and A3 or D16, in all positions other
than P.

Is there battery voltage?
Y E S — G o t o step 14.
N O — G o t o step 7.
Is the switch OK ?
Y E S — R e c o n n e c t the switch connector, then go to
step 5.
NO—Replace the transmission range switch
(see page 14-271), then go to step 56.
