A / T Interlock System
K e y I n t e r l o c k S y s t e m C i r c u i t T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g
SRS c o m p o n e n t s are located in this area. Review the
SRS c o m p o n e n t locations (see page 24-11), and the
precautions and procedures (see page 24-13) before
p e r f o r m i n g repair or service.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I). The shift lever
must be in the P position.
2. Disconnect the steering lock assembly connector.
3. Check if the ignition key can be m o v e d to the LOCK
(0) position, and remove the key f r o m the cylinder.
Can the ignition key be moved
the LOCK
(0)
position,
and then
remove?
Y E S — G o t o step 4.
NO—Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock
assembly (see page 17-13).
4. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I) or ON (II), and
shift to the N position.
5. Check the voltage between steering lock assembly
connector terminal No. 4 and body g r o u n d .

8. Disconnect the park pin switch/A/T gear position
indicator panel light connector (see page 14-281).
9. Check for continuity between park pin switch/A/T
gear position indicator panel light connector
terminals No. 3 and No. 4 w h i l e the shift lever is in
the P position, and w h e n the shift lever is out of the
P position.

Is there continuity
when the shift lever
is in any

other than P, and no continuity
when the
shift lever
is in P?
YES—Check for an open in the w i r e between the
MICU and park pin switch/A/T gear position
indicator panel light connector. If the w i r e is OK,
replace the M I C U . B
NO—Replace the shift lever bracket base assembly;
the park pin switch is not available separately f r o m
the shift lever bracket base assembly (see page
1 4 - 2 8 1 ) . •
W i r e side of f e m a l e t e r m i n a l s
Is there battery
voltage?
YES—Go to step 6.
NO—Check for an open in the YEL w i r e between
the multiplex integrated control unit (MICU) and the
steering lock assembly connector. If the wire is OK,
substitute a k n o w n - g o o d MICU and r e c h e c k . •
6. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I), and shift to the P
position.
7. Remove the center console (see page 20-62).
