R e a r B r a k e P a d I n s p e c t i o n a n d R e p l a c e m e n t
ACAUTION
Frequent inhalation of brake pad d u s t regardless of
material c o m p o s i t i o n , could be hazardous to y o u r
health.
• A v o i d breathing dust particles.
• Never use an air hose or brush to clean brake
assemblies. Use an OSHA-approved v a c u u m
cleaner.
Inspection
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it w i t h
safety stands in the proper locations (see page 1-7).
Remove the rear wheels.
2. Check the thickness of the inner pad (A) and outer
pad (B). Do not include the thickness of the brake
pad backing plate.
Brake pad thickness:
Standard:
8.9—9.1 m m (0.35-
Service limit:
1.6 mm (0.06 in.)
0.36 in.)
3. If the brake pad thickness is less than the service
limit, replace all the pads as a set.
Replacement
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it w i t h
safety stands in the proper locations (see page 1-7).
Remove the rear wheels.
2. Remove the brake hose m o u n t i n g bracket (A).
3. Remove the flange bolts (B) w h i l e holding the pin
(C) w i t h a w r e n c h , being careful not to damage the
pin boot, and remove the caliper (D). Check the
hose and pin boots for damage and deterioration.
4. Remove the pad shim (A) and pads (B).
