Shafts and Clutches
C o u n t e r s h a f t Idler G e a r a n d 4th G e a r A x i a l C l e a r a n c e I n s p e c t i o n
Install the 2nd gear (A), thrust needle bearing (B),
needle bearing (C), idler gear (D), thrust needle
bearing (E), 56 m m washer (F), 1st gear (G), 4th
gear (H), 50.2 m m washer (I), 39 m m cotters (J),
cotter retainer (K), and snap ring (L) on the
countershaft (M).
2. Insert a feeler gauge blade (A) as thick as possible
between the 4th gear (B) and cotters (C).
3. Set the dial indicator (A) on the idler gear (B).

4. Measure the idler gear axial clearance in at least
three places w h i l e m o v i n g the idler gear. Use the
average as the actual clearance.
Standard: 0.005—0.040 m m (0.0002—0.0016 in.)
5. If the measurement is out of standard, remove the
56 m m washer and measure its thickness.
