S t e e r i n g G e a r b o x R e m o v a l a n d I n s t a l l a t i o n (cont'd)
Installation
1. Before installing the steering gearbox, make sure
that no fluid or grease is on the m a t i n g surface of
the gearbox and the front s u b f r a m e . To prevent the
gearbox m o u n t i n g bolts f r o m loosening after the
installation, remove the fluid or grease f r o m the
m o u n t cushions and bolt holes.
2. A p p l y a m i l d soap and water solution to both sides
of the m o u n t cushion m a t i n g surfaces (A).
3. Pass the motor (B) of the steering gearbox t h r o u g h
the w h e e l w e l l opening on the driver's side.
4. Carefully move the steering gearbox t o w a r d the
passenger's side until the pinion shaft clears the
w h e e l w e l l opening on the body.
5. Rotate the steering gearbox so the pinion shaft (A)
points u p w a r d .
6. Continue m o v i n g the gearbox t o w a r d the
passenger's side until the steering gearbox is in
position. Make sure the t o r q u e sensor 3P connector
and motor 2P connector are routed above the
gearbox.
7. Remove the vinyl tape f r o m pinion shaft, and install
the pinion shaft g r o m m e t (A). A l i g n the slots in the
pinion shaft g r o m m e n t w i t h the lug portions (B) on
the torque sensor housing.
