Carbon Accumulation Check
1. Connect the HDS t o the data link connector (DLC)
(A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at
3,000 r p m w i t h o u t load (in Park or neutral) until the
radiator fan comes o n , then let it idle.
3. Check the REL TP SENSOR in the DATA LIST w i t h
the HDS. The reading should be b e l o w 2.73 %. If it
is not, clean the throttle body (see page 11-381).
Throttle Position Learning Check
1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC)
(A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
2. Select the INSPECTION MENU w i t h the HDS.
3. Do the TP LEARNING CHECK in the ETCS TEST. If
needed, clean the throttle body (see page 11-381).
ACAUTION
Qo not insert y o u r fingers into the installed throttle
body w h e n y o u turn the ignition switch ON (II) or
While the ignition switch is ON (II). If y o u do, y o u
Will seriously injure your finger if the throttle valve
is activated.
1. Check for damage to the air cleaner. If the air
I cleaner is d a m a g e d , replace it (see page 11-382).
2. Remove the throttle body (see page 11-386).
3. W i p e off the carbon f r o m the throttle valve and
! inside the throttle body w i t h a paper t o w e l soaked
! in throttle plate and induction cleaner.

I NOTE:
J • Remove the throttle body t o clean it.
• Be careful not to pinch y o u r fingers.
• To avoid removing the m o l y b d e n u m coating, do
not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (A).
• Do not spray throttle plate and induction cleaner
directly on the throttle body.
• Use Honda genuine throttle plate and induction
cleaner.
4. Install the throttle body (see page 11-386).
5. Reset the PCM w i t h the HDS.
b. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and w a i t 2 seconds.

7. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see page 11-340).
